Fly to Finland

Flying to Finland is not difficult as you can book direct flights from all over the world to the biggest Finnish cities. Most of the European airlines fly to Helsinki and in some cases even to Turku and Tampere. If you are coming from Asia, Finnair is probably the best choice for a direct flight.

If you are travelling on a tight budget you might like to use some of the budget airlines. For example, RyanAir flies to Tampere from Bremen, Dublin, Riga, Milan, London and Frankfurt for incredibly low prices.

RyanAir is not the only airline with cheap flights to Finland as there are of course several other airlines offering cheap flights to Finland. If you are coming from Germany or Central Europe you should check what AirBerlin has to offer. And for my readers in Baltic countries, the Air Baltic flies from Riga and Vilnius to Finland.

Especially during the summer months, many other airlines offer flights to and from Finland in almost ridiculously low prices. For example, in the summer 2008 I flew with Lufthansa from Helsinki to Munich and back for the total of 99 euros including all taxes. Especially in the present economic situation some of the airlines might well offer extremely low prices in the next summer as well. But if you want to be sure about getting to Finland on a certain day, you should book the flight early. Early birds catch the best flights!

Welcome to Travel in Finland!

If you have never been in Finland, this might be a good time to think about a winter vacation in the north. Even in southern Finland, for example in Helsinki, we have a weather that is cold enough for most foreigners. But if you really want to experience a cold winter well below the freezing point you should travel to Lapland in Northern Finland. Having said that, I must confess never having been that far in the north!

But anyway, there are many interesting cities to visit even in southern parts of the country. You might like to combine three cities in a week's trip to Finland. For example Helsinki, Turku and Tampere are three very different cities with different histories that is reflected in the architecture of each city even today.

Welcome to this travel in Finland, the country where I have been born and where I still live!
